On 27 August 2026, our college hosted a vibrant and memorable celebration of Onam and Eid, bringing together the richness of traditions and the spirit of togetherness associated. The programme created a warm and festive atmosphere and provided students with an opportunity to learn, appreciate and celebrate diverse cultural traditions. The celebration began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Director, Rev. Ashwin Cordeiro SJ, the Vice Principal, Mr. Bhaskar Y, and other dignitaries. The lighting of the lamp marked the auspicious beginning of the programme and symbolised light, hope, knowledge and unity. The programme then moved into an engaging presentation on the story of Onam and King Mahabali. Through the narration, the audience was introduced to the traditional story and the values associated with Mahabali, including generosity, equality, humility and concern for the well-being of others. The presentation helped everyone understand why Onam continues to hold a special place in the cultural life of Kerala. This was followed by a graceful performance of Thiruvathira Kali, one of Kerala’s traditional group dances. The students, dressed in traditional Kerala attire, performed with coordinated movements and rhythm. Their elegant presentation beautifully reflected the cultural heritage of Kerala and was warmly appreciated by the audience. The celebration continued with a special segment dedicated to Eid. Students presented a story and spoke about the significance of the festival, highlighting values such as gratitude, compassion, sharing, peace and togetherness. The presentation encouraged the audience to understand and appreciate the traditions behind the celebration while recognising the common human values shared across cultures. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Director, Vice Principal, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students whose support and participation contributed to the success of the programme. The celebration was not merely a festive gathering but also a meaningful reminder of the importance of respecting different traditions and living together in harmony. The Onam and Eid celebration of 27 August 2026 was a memorable occasion filled with culture, colour and joy.
